Financial Survey

There are surveys out there you can take to earn points, dollars, and gift cards. I recently took a very easy and quick financial survey and just received a $20 Applebee's Gift Card and a free financial book called LEAP: Lifetime Economic Acceleration Process. The survey only takes a couple of minutes with a few basic questions and if you qualify to continue in their survey process you will be compensated for each survey you take. This survey is being done by a real estate school to gather statistical data for research. The survey is open to anyone, but they are focusing on the western states like Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah. This is an easy few minutes to earn a free book and $20 gift card.

This week has flown by and I just have not had a chance to sit down and get any blogs written. I do appologize and hope to not have this be a regular occurance. We had company in town at the beginning of the week and my husband was out of town on a business trip the end of the week. FREE DVD rentals from Redbox

Last week we took a road trip and were trying to find ways to entertain a 2 year old in the car. I was able to borrow a DVD player from a friend, but we only have 2 DVDs. I knew I did not want to watch Little Einstein over and over and over, but we also did not want to spend any money to get some new DVDs to watch. So, I found out about Redbox. I know many people who rent from them; however, we never have. The best part is that I found out that you can almost always get a free rental and you can return them anywhere. Hence being a great option for the road trip.

We were able to pick up our first DVD here in town before we left, returned it when we at our destination. Got a second DVD before we left to head home and then got a third DVD halfway home for the remainder of the trip. Most Wal-marts have Redboxes, some McDonalds, Walgreens, and grocery stores also have them.

So, on to the best part... the free codes. Right now there are several codes that are reported to be working. I say reported because you always take a chance that a code my not work. Anyway I found these codes on the blog Inside Redbox.

FREE Family Camp @ Bass Pro Shop

The Bass Pro Shop is hosting a FREE Family Summer Camp until July 5 every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. Check out the flyer here to see at the details of when activities are happening. They have 8 different stations you can participate in like casting, archery, making a bird feeder, and many more along with special events that happen throughout the day at specified times. After your child completes a station they get a special pen and can try to collect them all.

Holiday weekend deals

If you are going to be in town and want to find a few good deals there are several around.

At Old Navy you can get up to 5 pairs of flip flops for $1 each on Saturday. Then, head over to Wal-mart for free ice cream from 11 to 4. You can have free breakfast at IKEA (if you are lucky enough to live near one) every morning from Saturday through Monday.

I'm sure there are many more deals out there, so if you find a good one post a comment so others can get in on the great deals this weekend. As for my family, we will be heading to the mountains for a little family time on the trails and in a tent.

Ok, so we do not eat out very much any more. We used to, but that is one area where we have been able to really cut back on our budget. But, yesterday we spent the day out and needed to eat out for dinner, so we ate at TGI Friday's. I had signed up for their Rewards Program and I had no idea how great it would be!

Then we were able to get the Brownie Obsession for our free dessert. All in all, we ate out with an appetizer, 2 entrees, and dessert and our bill came to just under $11. Before you order please understand a little about this site. When you purchase a gift certificate, it is not exactly is gift certificate like we think of, it is more like a coupon. It is a good deal but make sure you read the terms for that restaurant before you order. For example, one of the restaurants in my area states that you must purchase a minimum of $50 and 18% gratuity will be added before discount. So let's do the math and figure out what you will actually spend at this restaurant. Your total bill comes to $50, you pay $25 gift certificate and $25 cash, plus $9 in tip. So, you total for eating out that night would be $36 for a meal that cost $50, that's like saving 28% which includes the tip. Which can be a great deal if you are planning to eat out and you find one for a restaurant that you want to go to. Look around because not all restaurants have the same terms and I just used the restaurant that is closest to my house. I do have a friend who uses they certificates when they eat out and is happy with the money it has saved her family.

Frugal Friday: Frugal Gardening

I posted a while back about getting free seeds here and here. So far I have gotten free peas, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, lettuce, and basil. Now I needed to get those seeds started and I wanted to find a way to get the seeds going. Last year I went to the store and bought a seed starting kit for about $20, this year I wanted to see if I could come up with a cheaper way. I am trying two different methods that I would like to share with you and post the progress to see if one works better than the other. So, the two methods; toilet paper tubes and egg cartons.

I placed both the toilet paper tubes (cut in half) and egg cartons inside a plastic shoe box container. Next, I filled each spot with dirt, place two seeds in each compartment and topped with more dirt. Now you just water and wait, wait, wait. I will follow up in later posts about how the seeds are growing. Let me know how you are prepping your garden and what your plans are.

Picturing Jesus

When Jesus’ parents had fulfilled all the requirements of the law of the Lord, they returned home to Nazareth in Galilee. There the child grew up healthy and strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God’s favor was on him. -Luke 2:39-40

Then he returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. And his mother stored all these things in her heart. Jesus grew in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and all the people. -Luke 2:51-52

Even though I find myself often thinking of Christ in such high standards it is a good reminder when we read these words of how human and like us he really is. As Beth Moore puts it, "in today's terms, He was a man who could preach an anointed sermon, then change a flat tire on the way home from chruch."

Frugal Friday: Homemade Peanut Butter

I have a friend who has been making her peanut butter for a while now and keeps telling me about it. I however, have been very leary because peanut butter is on thing I am very brand specific with and really didn't think I would be able to come up with something better. Well, I did! You have got to try it, I think it is the most wonderful peanut butter I have actually had.

All you need is a jar/can of peanuts, honey, and oil. This recipe is another one that has reminded me how much I love my food processor.

You put 2 C. peanuts, 1 T. honey, and a dash of salt (I used lightly salted peanuts, so I didn't add any salt) into the food processor and turn on. While it is go slowly add a few T. of oil, I used 4 and think next time I will use a little less. But you need to find the right amount for how you like your peanut butter.

As you are processing your peanut butter it will first be chunky, then form a ball that will roll around your processor and keep going until you get a smooth nice looking peanut butter.

My final price was about $1.50, but I didn't really search for a good peanut deal. Really the cost of your peanut butter can be as low as you can get the cost of your peanuts. I will now start looking for some great deals on peanuts.

Since we made our peanut butter my daughter loves to have peanut butter dippers. I simply cut up fruits and vegetables and put them on a plate with a scoop of peanut butter and she dips everything in. It's her new favorite for breakfast, lunch, and snack. Life is fun with a toddler!

Listening, Answering

Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Passover festival. When Jesus was twelve years old, they attended the festival as usual. After the celebration was over, they started home to Nazareth, but Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. His parents didn’t miss him at first, because they assumed he was among the other travelers. But when he didn’t show up that evening, they started looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they couldn’t find him, they went back to Jerusalem to search for him there. Three days later they finally discovered him in the Temple, sitting among the religious teachers, listening to them and asking questions. All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers. -Luke 2:41-47

Imagine again that you were Mary and could not find your child for three days. I can only being to image the feelings of fear and worry that flooded through them. However, from this passage we learn a great deal about Jesus; he listens, asks questions, and answers. Even though this was what he did her on earth, and even at 12 years old, this is also the relationship Jesus wants us to have with him today. We need to remember each day that Jesus not only will listen, I find that too often I try to give him my laundry list of prayers, but he will also ask questions and answer us if we only take the time to listen to him.

Covenant and Redemption

Eight days later, when the baby was circumcised, he was named Jesus, the name given him by the angel even before he was conceived. Then it was time for their purification offering, as required by the law of Moses after the birth of a child; so his parents took him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. The law of the Lord says, “If a woman’s first child is a boy, he must be dedicated to the Lord.” So they offered the sacrifice required in the law of the Lord—“either a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons.” -Luke 2:21-24

Again in this passage we are reminded how amazing our God is that he would have Jesus be born to "normal" people who would obey the Jew laws and follow the rituals that were done at that time even tough those rituals were ultimately be the events that would be done as representation of Jesus. Circumcision was done as a sign of the covenant between God and that person, the rite of redemption was done as a reminder that the Lord brought us out of Egypt, and the rite of purification was done to offer a sacrifice of a lamb or two doves to symbolize that the child is given up to the Lord to redeem him/her from all wickedness and purify him. When you think about exactly what Mary and Joseph did, it was really just all part of joining the Old Testament promises with the New Testament fulfillment.

A Night of Nights

When the angels had returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go to Bethlehem! After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child. All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished, but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often. The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them. -Luke 2:15-20

Try to imagine what this night was like for Mary. She has just given birth to her baby next to the man she is to marry, but really doesn't know. And now she must figure out how to take care of this child, who really is not her own, but God's. Today, remember that even though your children have earthly parents, they too are God's children. Are you training them up to be part of his family?

Heaven Came Down

That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. Perfect Timing

And that’s the way it was with us before Christ came. We were like children; we were slaves to the basic spiritual principles of this world. But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir. -Galations 4:3-7

It's amazing when you think about how God has everything planned way before it ever happens. Thinking about Mary traveling to Bethlehem while she was "great with child" as the KJV puts it seems like the most unlikely time, yet God had it all planned out in just this way for many reasons. Today think about the plans God has had and continues to have for your life.

A Good Time to Celebrate

At that time the Roman emperor, Augustus, decreed that a census should be taken throughout the Roman Empire. (This was the first census taken when Quirinius was governor of Syria.) All returned to their own ancestral towns to register for this census. And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, his fiancée, who was now obviously pregnant. And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. -Luke 2:1-7

Have you ever wondered why we celebrate this amazing even on December 25? Well, we don't actually know, but if you follow the Jewish calendar and match it up with the information we do know Jesus would have been born near the end of December. As we are approaching Easter, I think it is also important to think about and remember how it all started at Christmas. Too often in our current world I think Christmas and a little with Easter we forget why we are actually celebrating these days. As Christians we need to make sure we are teaching our children why we celebrate these special days.

Mary's Song

Mary responded, “Oh, how my soul praises the Lord. How my spirit rejoices in God my Savior! For he took notice of his lowly servant girl, and from now on all generations will call me blessed. For the Mighty One is holy, and he has done great things for me. He shows mercy from generation to generation to all who fear him. His mighty arm has done tremendous things! He has scattered the proud and haughty ones. He has brought down princes from their thrones and exalted the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things and sent the rich away with empty hands. He has helped his servant Israel and remembered to be merciful. For he made this promise to our ancestors, to Abraham and his children forever.” -Luke 1:46-55

Wow! is Mary an amazing women or what. Moore explains in her study today how this passage gives us a glimpse of several facts about Mary; her excitement (her spirit rejoiced in God), her love of scripture (this passage reflects many Old Testament passages), her humility (she replies that all generations will call be blessed, but not out of pride, but shock), and her experience (she was just a plain, simple, ordinary girl chosen by God). She was a model of all these behaviors during a time when she probably felt so totally overwhelmed and scared. I pray today that you and I can think about these aspects of Mary's life and try to exemplify them in our lives.

Frugal Friday: Fruit Cups

We traveled a few months ago and had gotten my two year old some fruit cups to take on the trip and since then, she has been obsessed with wanting fruit cups. Which, I did not want for two reasons, their price and that high sugary juice that the fruit is soaked in. So, I have been trying to figure out what I can do because she has been refusing to eat the fresh fruit I have bought lately.

Here was my plan: Make my own!

I got some small plastic cups from Walmart. I paid $2 something for 8 cups and then got strawberries and bananas on sale this week. My problem was how can I keep the bananas from going brown in the cups. I had a can of pineapples, so I cut the bananas and put in the bottom of the cups, added some pineapples (with just a little of the pineapple juice), and then topped each cup with cut up strawberries. They turned out perfect and she is back to eating fresh fruit without complaining.

Kindred Hearts

A few days later Mary hurried to the hill country of Judea, to the town where Zechariah lived. She entered the house and greeted Elizabeth. At the sound of Mary’s greeting, Elizabeth’s child leaped within her, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. How amazing God is when you think about how the Angel was sent to Mary to tell her that she was to give birth to Jesus, but God didn't leave it there, he gave her companionship with Elizabeth, someone who would understand what Mary was going through. God is great and he knows our every need, even before we know. Today try to be conscious of those people that God brings in to your life, to help meet your needs or even for you to help meet their needs. It can be amazing when you recognize God hand in the everyday events of you life.

Give Him the Name Jesus

The Birth of Jesus Foretold In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. This is the first scripture that speaks of the name Jesus. It was just a common name of that region and time, but was chosen to be the name of our amazing savor who would come to save everyone, even the common people. What does the name Jesus mean to you?

Praying for your Adult Children - Day 31

We have made it through a month of learning how to pray for our children. Now, Omartian gives advise on how to pray for your adult children. She stresses that they never outgrow their need for your love and approval, your admiration and respect, and your emotional and spiritual support. Through the years your children will go through troubling and disappointing times, but we must continue to pray and pray they will come through this time stronger and wiser. I really like that Omartian said, "you can't tell them what to do, but you can tell the enemy what to do."

Growing in Faith - Day 30

This is what it is all about. Praying that your children will have faith and grow within that faith to be mature Christians and have faith, hope, and love in their lives. Omartian explains that by having faith in their lives children have a purpose, calling, and bright future because they are children of God and they know Jesus died for them. One obstacle that many parents struggle with is a personal lack of faith and feel selfish asking for faith for their children when they are questioning. Omartian suggests if this is where you are called to pray first for your faith to grow and then pray for you children. God is powerful and can do miracles in our children if we just pray.

If you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there," and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. -Matthew 17:20

Seeking Wisdom and Discernment - Day 29

As parents we are allows worrying about our children's safety and well-being. However, often times the decisions that surround these events must be made by our children alone. So, as parents, we must pray for God to reveal wisdom, revelations, and discernment to them. It is our job to help them grow and learn how to be tuned into God's voice and know how to respond to Him. Many people call events in live coincidences, but Omartian says they are wisdom and discernment of God.

When wisdom enters your heart, and knowledge is pleasant to your soul, discretion will preserve you, understanding will keep you, to deliver you from the ways of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things. -Proverbs 2:10-12

It has been a few weeks since I have done a true shopping trip. We have had several weeks were we have eaten a lot of what we already has in the house and only going to the store for the basics. So, here is this weeks trip to Safeway. I still need to make a small trip to King Soopers.

Breaking Down Ungodly Strongholds - Day 28

Throughout our study Omartian talks about how when she would sense something not right with her children she prays for God to reveal what is going on to her. Today's study continues in this same area. She explains how we need to be suspicious not of our children's actions, but of the enemy actions that are lurking around to erect a stronghold on their lives. When she would feel something was going on she pray Psalm 69:5 "Lord, you know our foolishness and our sins are not hidden from you." After praying eventual God would revel to her what was happening, and she was able to stop them before the deception had taken a foothold in their life.

Beth Moore: Jesus

The month is coming to an end which means we are almost through our Power of a Praying Parent study and need to start another one. I have decided to go away from the topic of parenting and focus on my personal relationship with Jesus. I thought with Easter approaching what better time to deepen my relationship with Him. Beth Moore has written a study in her Personal Reflections Series that is a perfect fit.

Each day she has a short scripture reading, some reflection questions, teaching from Beth, and a personal prayer. I have done some of her other studies, which I have loved, but they are very time intensive and unfortunately I do not have that amount of time right now. Frugal Friday - Homemade Laundry Detergent

Since I have been couponing and watching prices I have seen the prices of laundry detergent go up and up. I was able to get small bottles of laundry soap for about $2 or less matching sales and coupons, now I am not able to do this any more. So, I started looking for other options and found this recpie for homemade detergent. We have now been using it for about two and a half months and we are happy with the results.

You need:

2 C. shredded bar soap (I use Ivory)

1 C. Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda

1 C. 20 Mule Team Borax

Mix it all together and store in air tight container. I like to use my food processor to shred the soap because it is quick and easy. Use 1-2 Tablespoons per load of wash. I use 1 tablespoon for most loads. I do also pretreat stains when needed, but other wise this detergent seems to do as well as the store bought detergent I used to use.

The cost breakdown:

Bar soap - I picked it up free at Walgreens

Super Washing Soda $4.20, so for 1 C the price is about $.60

Borax - I paid $4.40, so for 1 C the price is about $.50

Total cost per batch of detergent is $1.10 and it lasts my family of three about 2 and a half months.

Walking in Repentance - Day 27

As Christian parents we must teach our children confession and repentance because we are all sin and to fully have God's love revealed to us we must not allow a wall of sin build between us. We need to pray that God will reveal, expose, or bring to light any hidden sin that has taken root into our children's heart to allow us to help confession and repentance to start from an early age. Confession is a way of clearing the slate of a sin and then repentance allows us to start over clean in God's eyes.

Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die? -Ezekiel 18:31

Living Free of Unforgiveness - Day 26

Praying that our children will learn to forgive and truly allow forgiveness to be a part of their life is so vital for them to have happy productive adult lives. Omartian explains how she teaches her children from a very young age to say, "I forgive you" when someone apologies to help them fully understand what forgiveness is. This is such a great idea, I have always just allowed kids to respond with, "that's ok" but by doing this they are not fully allowing forgiveness to happen and it will gradually build up. By forgiving someone you are not saying what they did was right, but it allows you to be free. We must teach our children that forgiveness is a choice and it will allow you to live a life of freedom because of the God of justice. What a powerful area of our children's lives to pray about.

Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you ,with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ also forgave you. -Ephesians 4:31-32

Finding the Perfect Mate - Day 25

Praying that your children will find the perfect mate and that a spirit of divorce will never have a place in their lives is so critical in todays world. It seems like divorce has been so ramped lately and becoming an everyday occurrence. I was just struggling with this at Starbucks when I saw that their new book titled, "It happens Every Day" is about a family that falls apart because of divorce. Ok, so I haven't read the book, just the book jacket and was frustrated by the fact that divorce is considered an every day occurrence. It is encouraging to know that I can pray for my children to have the spirit of God to plan their life and marriage even now, years before it will happen.

From the beginning of creation, God made them male and female. For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined with his wife, and the two shall become one flesh; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate. -Mark 10:6-9

Welcome to Mommy Daily. If you have joined me from the blog party, welcome. I am a new blogger and really trying to trudge through and figure out what I am doing. Please stay for a while and look around, let me know what you think.

I have only started this blog a little over a month ago with the desire to help other Christian moms to be encouraged in their walk with God and their daily walks with their families. I post about my daily Bible study, activities I do with my toddler, ways I save my family money through couponing and sale shopping.

Rejecting Sexual Immorality - Day 24

Praying that our children will reject sexual sin is something many parents do because we know the consenquences that can come. But Omartian stresses that when sexual sin is happening the fullness of God's presence, peace, blessings, and joy are sacrificed also. Sexual Sin is also an area we must start praying for a children today, no matter what their age. Pray that your children will be able to trust God and not turn to their emotional strongholds to allow them to live God's way.

But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. -James 1:14-15

Menu Plan Monday - March 23

This week is an easy week. We have a group over from church and two nights out, so we are eating a few meals from last week we never had and a few others with things we have in the house. So, I will only be doing a very small shopping trip this week. My goal is to keep our food budget under $20 this week.

Breakfast & lunch: just the usual, no exciting recipes to share

Dinners:
Monday - Chicken strips and french fries

Tuesday - Soup night with group from church, I'm making cheesy potato (I never made it last week, it was just too hot all week)

Wednesday - dinner at a friend's house

Thursday - Steak & pasta

Friday - Pizza

Saturday - Chicken spaghetti casserole (freezer meal from a few weeks ago)

Sunday - MOPS & POPS Dinner at church

Avoiding Alcohol, Drugs, and Other Addictions - Day 23

Praying that our children avoid drugs and alcohol seems like a definite prayer many parents pray. However, I think too often we pray after the fact and Omartian encourages us to begin praying now and continue praying that it will never become an issue. We must pray over our children in the area of addictions from a very early age because the draw of the flesh and the devil's plans are a lot stronger than we would like to think. This means even if we have taught our children what we want them to know, unless they have the power of God they are weak.

If you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. -Romans 8:13

Destroying an Inheritance of Family Bondage - Day 22

Praying that our children and ourselves can break the cycle of sin that has developed within a family is an area I have never considered praying about. Omartian encourages us to think about those areas of sin that have been happening within our families and confess them to God and seek the power of the Holy Spirit to make changes. She stresses that to see these negative traits to be broken in our children, we must first look at ourselves and our traits.

Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do no be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. -Galations 5:1

Lately I have had several conversations with people about changes they are making in their home to help their family be more green. Here is a great newsletter I have found that will give you daily tips on how to become more green and help your family. Check it out and sign up to get daily tips in your email.

I was just talking to a friend who said she has started a tradition that on Earth Day she and her family make a decision to change one thing and it got me thinking about what could my family change this year. I will get back to you once I have decided what we will be doing this year. She is trying to figure out how she can avoid collecting all those produce bags, she has already gone to reusable shopping bags, but gets so many little plastic bags with all her produce. Inviting the Joy of the Lord - Day 21

Many children especially teenagers can get into a habit of negative feelings and thoughts. As parents we can try to prevent this by praying for our children to be overtaken by a spirit of joy. This deep rich feeling comes by looking into the face of God and knowing He's all we'll ever need. Too often we get overwhelmed by trying to live up to the needs of this world and forget that it is all about living up to God's standards.

Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peach in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. -Romans 15:13

Frugal Friday - Homemade Shape Sorter

Shape sorters are a favorite toy for many kids. I have created a simple shape sorter using supplies you already have around your house. You need an empty wipes container and the link toys, we had gotten lots of these when the baby was born.

Now you can have hours of fun filling and dumping the container. Now that my daughter is a little older we practice sorting them by colors when we put them in

Skills learned by playing with shape sorters:

-fine motor skills

-hand-eye coordination

-trial and error problem solving

-cause and effect

-sorting

-counting

-you can practice taking turns

-make up your own game and have fun

Receiving a Sound Mind - Day 20

As a parent of a toddler I feel like I am always thinking about what influences I have allowed to be around her and what is being put into her mind. This is exactly what Omartian is talking about today. She says even after they are older and we do not have as much control over their world, we always have the power to pray that their mind will be sound and protected by God. By teaching our children to fill their minds with the things of God we are encouraging them to have clarity of thought and peace of mind. What a blessing this can bring to our children.

Enjoying Freedom from Fear - Day 19

I have seen so many children who live their lives in fear in my years as a teacher and it is encouraging to know that there is something I can do to help my children to not live this way. Omartian defines fear as false evidence appearing real and many children fall into this because they are unable to discern what is real and not real. As parents we can help them, but only God can free them.

Prayig Through a Child's Room - Day 18

In this chapter Omartian encourages us to pray over our children's room and invite the Holy Spirit to dwell there and crowd out anything that was not of God. She talks about how her son was waking in the night with nightmares and she walked through his room and found a video game that had satanic actions in it. After having her son remove the video game and praying over his room he slept soundly. It is important not only to pray over your children's room, but your whole house. Have a spiritual housecleaning, I have started to make sure while I am cleaning to be praying about someone or something. Now I think I should also pray for that room and our home.

Staying Attracted to Holiness and Purity - Day 17

The bible is very clear in the area of purity; we are all called to live pure lives. This means our actions, thoughts, and words. Too often I think teens and even adults get sucked into unpure conversations and activities because they are worried about not being liked for fitting in. However, Omartian explains that you can live a pure life while not turning people off becuase the way you live is not a legalistic attempt to be perfect or to impress others; it is done from your heart and had a deep reverance from God and a desire to live His way. We must pray that our children will be attract to holiness and purity like a magnet.

Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God. -Matthew 5:8
